About this event

The Williams Chamber Choir conducted by Anna Lenti present their spring concert. This event is free and open to the public. The Williams Chamber Choir presents “Ever,” a concert on themes of suffering and redemption. The first half of the program considers these themes through the story of Jesus’s passion and resurrection. Selections from Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri examine Christ’s suffering through meditations on the wounds in his body, and Bach’s cantata for Easter, Christ lag in Todesbanden, tells the story of Christ’s resurrection and ultimate triumph over death. The second half of the program brings these themes into the present day with Caroline Shaw’s 2016 work, To the Hands. Inspired by “Ad Manus” from the Buxtehude on the first half of the program, this piece considers the suffering of immigrants, refugees, and other displaced people, asking the audience to examine our complicity in both global and local crises. The program ends with Holst’s glorious Nunc Dimittis, which musically depicts a hopeful and joyful resurrection in its setting of the famous Song of Simeon. Donations will be collected for the Berkshire Immigrant Center. Please learn more about their wonderful work in our community, or make a donation ahead of the concert, by visiting their website at https://www.berkshireic.org/
