About this event

The war on Iran has captivated the world’s attention in recent weeks. In this talk, Zahra Moeini will delve into the ways in which imperial history, contemporary Islamophobia and religious discourses play a role in either activating or resulting from such violence. She will also touch on how to recover spirituality and an ethics of social action in such a historically re-defining moment in our world. Speaker Bio: Zahra Moeini is the Associate Muslim Chaplain and Interfaith Advisor at Middlebury College. She has served as an educator in both the academic study of religion and spiritual life to audiences from various walks of life and traditions. She has also served as an organizer for the American Muslim student communities on campuses like the University of Chicago and beyond. She is deeply concerned and passionate about the intersections of education, spirituality and social action, especially on issues relating to racial and economic justice. Co-sponsored by MinCo Steering Committee & Muslim Life. This is the second event in the Liberation and Spirituality Series offered through Muslim Life at the Chaplains’ Office. The last event in the series, Islam & Liberation with Dr. Celene Ibrahim, will take place between 7:30-9 PM on Thursday, May 14 in Griffin 3. Drawing on the work of Muslim theologians, mystics, jurists, and creatives, Dr. Ibrahim maps the overlapping streams that together constitute a distinctly Islamic liberationist praxis. She explains how, in its fullest articulation, Islamic liberation theology is political, poetic, didactic, and pastoral, and that these dimensions are mutually constitutive.  Questions?
